Joined Eccles Borough Band at the age of 12 in 1954 as a learner on Tenor Horn. First contested in 1957 with Ted Buttress MD. Played in the Wereld Musiekconcours at Kerkrade, Holland in 1958. Married Jim in 1965 – the first wedding of two band members in Eccles Borough Band. Left EBB in 1969, 3 weeks before the birth of our second child, Keith. Didn’t play for 9 years. Joined Urmston and Davyhulme Silver Band (which became Trafford Band) in 1978, when both our daughter Lisa and our son Keith started to play. Left in 1986. Rejoined Eccles Borough Band in 1987 and during that time I have played Tenor Horn, Baritone and Euphonium. When our children were small I ran a Playgroup at Urmston Methodist Church for eight years. I retired in 2001 after working as a Secretary at Blagden Packaging Limited, steel drum manufacturers, for 20 years. Our five grandchildren, Hannah, Megan, Olivia, Sam and Sophie keep us busy and stop us from becoming bored.
