Early 2010 Newsletter
Goodbye to Les Webb
At the end of December we said a sad goodbye to our Musical Director, Les Webb, who served us well for five years and helped us gain promotion back into the Third Section. We thank Les for his enthusiasm, hard work and friendship and congratulate and wish him every success in his appointment as Solo Trombone in the Fairey Band.
Our new Musical Director
After a slow start to 2010 due to the inclement weather, we appointed Mrs Mareika Gray as our new Musical Director. Mareika is a lovely Australian lady with a bubbly personality who hopefully knows just how to get the best out of our Band. We hope we will enjoy many happy years together. We are currently all working together towards our foray into the Third Section at the North West Regional Contest at Blackpool in March. You can read more about Mareika here.
New Principal Cornet Player
Just before Christmas we welcomed our new Principal Cornet Player, Claire Southward. Claire joins us from the Greenalls band and she is a graduate of the Royal Northern College of Music. Claire has already settled into her new position and we hope she will be very happy in the Band.
North West Regional Championships
As stated previously, rehearsals are now in full flow for the North West Regionals Contest. We are playing in the 3rd Section and the test piece is ‘Labour and Love’ by Percy Fletcher. The contest will be held at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool on Sunday March 14th, 2009.
